NVIDIA has officially confirmed the specifications of GTX 1060 3GB variant at special event in Asia.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 3GB gets 1152 CUDA cores
It appears that the only difference between the 6GB and 3GB model (apart from the memory) is CUDA core count. It is however not surprising, as this information was leaked few weeks ago.
NVIDIA has confirmed that GTX 1060 3GB will have the same TDP as 1060 6GB model, which is 120W. Of course since we are way past 75W PCI-E standard, this card will also require additional 6-pin connector.
It appears that the boost clock won’t be much different as well, as the slide confirms 1.7 GHz clock.
This is without a doubt a very strange decision for NVIDIA to launch two products using the same model name, but having different GPU configurations. Rather than naming one GTX 1060 Ti or Boost, we now have two GTX 1060 cards with different frame buffer and different CUDA core count.
Gainward GTX 1060 3GB
Along with the official announcement, first models have already been revealed. This is the card from Gainward, GameSoul series. You can clearly see it has 3GB GDDR5 memory. It’s worth noting that the full specs (3rd image) show wrong specs. It should be 72 TMUs, not 106.
